Pairings: John Sheppard/Cameron Mitchell,
Rating: Hard R
Word Count: 1,865 for this part
Warnings: Somewhat explicit sex.
Summary: After contact is reestablished with the Atlantis Expedition, John and Cam find themselves embarking on a long journey.
AN: This is not betaed. I would like to find a Beta for the rest of the fics in this series, so if anyone can point me in the direction of a good one it would be appreciated. While this is the first fic in the series, I plan to write several prequels to provide more background info. If there is anything that you want to know let me know. The title is (probably bad) Latin meaning ‘Long Journey Home.’ This is pretty AU.
Series: Excubiae Perpetua
Disclaimer: I own neither Stargate SG-1 nor Stargate Atlantis.

Domum Longinquo

John sighed and initiated another kiss. This was bliss. After nearly a year of anxious patience, extreme pain, doubtful doctors, Goa’uld hand device treatments and a lot of crying that no one would ever find out about, his husband was finally mostly pain free. They had just gotten permission to resume sexual activity, however limited and abridged it was due to him still not being anywhere near 100%, and they were taking advantage of the situation. The fact that they were stationed in the same place for the first time in ten years also helped matters, and they were wasting no time getting back into the swing of things.

He moved his hand from where it was absently petting Cam’s stomach, running his hands through the soft hair there in a soothing way that they both enjoyed, lower to fondle Cam’s cock, which was getting hard for the first time in a long time. Well, at least when something could be done about it. Yes, John though, this was absolute bliss.

He began trailing light kisses over Cam’s jaw and neck, intent on working his way lower to blow his husband in to oblivion when someone knocked on their door. He, of course, ignored it. He was making good work of his husband’s left nipple when the knocking came again, followed by the voice of someone who was probably about to die saying “Colonels!” insistently.

“Go away! We’re busy,” Cam shouted breathlessly.

“Please sir! It’s urgent!”

John sighed and gave Cam a quick kiss before getting out of bed, covering the truly beautiful man up and heading to the door. He remembered almost too late that he was naked and sporting an impressive erection and grabbed a blanket off the end of the bed and wrapped it around him. It didn’t really hide anything, but he really didn’t care. He opened the door to a young Marine who paled immediately before looking down and turning bright red when he noticed the state that John was in.

“What the hell is so important, Marine?” he demanded of the young man. He was really quite pissed.

“We just made contact with Atlantis a few hours ago, sir. The General has requested your presence to go over some things.”

John glared. “Fine, tell him I will be up in half an hour to deal with it.” He started closing the door when the Marine paled again and cleared his throat.

“Actually, sir, he said it was urgent and that he needed you immediately. He also needs Colonel Mitchell, sir.”

John sighed before nodding and shutting the door. He turned to the man in the bed with an apologetic frown. General Landry likely knew what they were planning on using this time for. He was there when his daughter gave them an update on Mitchell’s health and approved this. If it was urgent enough to need them immediately then they really couldn’t wait.

“Why does the world hate us so much?” His husband was definitely not happy, and when he pulled the covers off he realized that he was also soft. That was really unfortunate. “Let’s get dressed and go see what he wants.”

Cam frowned before looking at John’s cock questioningly. John shook his head. There was no time to take care of it, and he didn’t want to do anything when Cam couldn’t. He went to the dresser and started pulling out clean clothes for them to wear as Cam gingerly sat up and swung his legs over the side. He got dressed quickly in BDU’s and and a black tee shirt before picking up a pile of clothes to take over to Cam. He handed Cam another tee shirt then kneeled to slip on a pair of boxer briefs and pants. Cam still had issues bending over enough to put those on. When he was done he put on his socks and boots before helping Cam stand up. Cam grabbed a cane by the door and they were off.

When they arrived at the briefing room above the control room they were greeted by General Hank Landry and General Jack O’Neill, as well as two other men with stars on their necks that John had never met before. John and Cam saluted, getting one back, and then John led Cam over to a chair before sitting down himself.

“Colonels, it’s nice to see ya both up and looking good,” O’Neill said with a grin as he took his seat across from Cam. “This is Brigadier General Owen Grey,” he indicated the tall, blond one “and Major General Alan Cowell.” He indicated the the lanky, white haired man that seemed like he had a constant grin. “We are just waiting on SG-1 and some guys from the IOA and then we can get started.”

“I was under the impression that this was an urgent affair General. We were in the middle of something,” Cam stated. “If we weren’t needed right away we would have preferred to’ve been left alone.”

The General grinned. “Sorry about that. They were supposed to be here before you guys showed up. I heard about your progress, Cam, and I am sorry that me messed up your guys’ alone time. I understand it has been a while.” Cam blushed and Grey started glaring at them. “The reality is that the wounded and the command staff from Atlantis going to gate in in about an hour and we need to get this taken care of. Ah, there they are!”

Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Carter walked in followed by Dr. Daniel Jackson. They took their seats on either side of John and Cam. Behind them was Richard Woolsey, the IOA liaison to the SGC and a grim looking woman in a pant suit and her graying hair in a very tight bun. John remembered seeing her around before and knew that she was from France and part of the IOA, but not much beyond that.

Landry cleared his throat. “Ladies and gentlemen, we don’t have much time so I would like to skip the pleasantries for now. We received a data burst from Atlantis a few hours ago that confirmed that they have neutralized the Wraith threat to the City for the time being. They are going to dial in in a little less than an hour to send through the casualties of the battle along with the senior command staff of the base. We are here to discuss how we are going to proceed in regards to new personnel for the mission.

“Colonel Sheppard here is going to Atlantis as he has the strongest expression of the ATA gene that we’ve found so far. Dr. Jackson is also going along to study the Ancients. We are going to split the science division into two teams. Soft sciences will be led by Dr. Jackson and Hard sciences will be led by... well I don’t know yet, but both team leaders will report to Dr. McKay. We also need to start thinking of a replacement for Colonel Marshall Sumner. I understand that Major Lorne has been doing a good job out there, but this mission is too important to have the military be led by a major.

O’Neill jumped in at this point. “Colonel Mitchell will replace Sumner.” He said it as a statement of fact, not a suggestion.

Grey frowned at this. “Why?”

“Because he is going to Atlantis anyway. The position of CMO should be a desk job, and I think it is pretty clear that he is going to spend the rest of his career at a desk,” O’Neill answered, earning him a glare from both Cam and John.

“I don’t see why he is going to Atlantis in the first place. And besides, Hank, we agreed that Colonel Caldwell was going to get the position.”

Dr. Jackson glared at him. “He is going because John is going.”

“Not only that,” Carter added,” but when you do a kamikaze run to save the planet, then magically survive, you pretty much get your choice of postings. Colonel Mitchell did that. He asked not to be separated from Colonel Sheppard again and has the President’s promise that he won’t. As he will be the ranking military officer, he will take the CMO position.”

At this Woolsey joined in with “He also has a mildly strong expression of the ATA gene, which Colonel Caldwell doesn’t have. I saw that he was on the short list, but don’t understand why. He is much better suited where he is. He is a very good starship captain, and it is the opinion of the IOA that he remains there. That said, we didn’t know that Colonel Mitchell was a candidate and we will need to review his record before we can give him our support."

"I spoke with the President about this when we first made contact with the expedition and he agreed with me that Mitchell is our man for this. Mitchell is going, and he is going as CMO, end of discussion." O'Neill looked pissed when he spoke. Grey glared more, but kept quiet. Woolsey looked down at his notes a little sheepishly.

“The IOA has decided, based on the first report on the situation in Pegasus to expand the size of the expedition. We want to replace all of those that were lost as well as expand each science department, create a few more like Botany and Math, increase support personnel, and drastically increase the military contingent. The Milky Way currently doesn’t have any major threats and Pegasus does. If there is room for it in the City, then we feel that over the next few months we need to double the original expedition size 150, then gradually increase from there.” He looked around for objections, but seeing none went on. “Our long term goal is the eradication of the Wraith threat to Pegasus.”

“We would like to declassify the Stargate Program within the next five years,” the French woman said with a very slight accent, “but we feel that as long as there is a major threat, like the Wraith, that it will not go well. Therefore, we would like to get rid of them as soon as possible, and are therefore committed to that goad above all others.”

“How exactly do you plan to do that ma’am?” John asked. It seemed like a pretty tall order. Granted, the Goa’uld were gone, but there were still bad guys out there in this galaxy.

“I do not know, Colonel Sheppard. I am not a military strategist, nor do I pretend to be. I am merely informing you of our plans. It is up to you here to determine how they are to be fulfilled.”

At this Landry scooted his chair back. “We will discuss these things with the Atlantis personnel when they get here, which will be soon. For now, Colonels and Dr. Jackson, I would like you to start gathering files for potential new personnel for the expedition. The rest of us have other things to discuss. Dismissed.” He stood then, as did everyone else. John helped Cam up before following him and the others out of the room.
