He was perfectly happy with the sort of dangerous missions he already undertook and didn't particularly feel the need to go on a possibly one-way trip to a distant alien city. That was what he thought, at least, until he joined General O'Neill on a visit to the Antartic outpost, met an old friend, got shot at with an alien weapon, and found himself volunteering for the mission for reasons that he couldn't quite express. He was pretty sure John was to blame somehow.
