State of the Community I

Popping my head in to say hello and welcome!

I've been playing around with the community description, and before I carve it into stone, I'm wondering what you all would like to see on this community? Fanfic and art and icons, of course, but what else? Do you want to be notified of challenges and ficathons that are likely to feature John/Cam pairings (like sg_rarepairings)? Do you want to hear about unclaimed John/Cam prompts at various challenges? Do you want general Ben Browder or Joe Flanigan news? Or would you prefer content to be a little more restricted? And is there anything else you'd like to see in the community profile?

A second issue: tags. What kinds of tags would be useful to you? Right now, I have a bunch of "type" tags: fic, fanmix, video, art, discussion, etc. Would you like any others? Author tags? Word count tags? Rating tags so that you can find the smut quickly?

Finally, if anyone has artistic or layout skills that they feel like using for making the community prettier, please let me know!

(Oh, and if anyone wants to play co-mod, let me know that too.)

Not so interested in this -- lots of other communities serve that purpose. But! I would be up for pairings that involve other Ben/Joe characters, like Crichton/Sheppard, say. ^_^ (Happy to keep it to John/Cam, though, too!)

Ooohhh... input! I love input. I have been guilty of lurking at sg flyboys over at LJ. *blush* I am ashamed because I love the pairing very much and refer to scroll's list often. That being said: personally I'm all about the writing. I love good stories. Icons are good, but I never use the other media. It's all good as long as it's got John/Cam. I'm not particularly interested in the actors, to me they are just people doing their jobs... it's the characters that I find so compelling. Links to other like minded communities is a great idea, and I love the idea of alerting us to challenges and ficathons.

I replied to your LJ notice, but I suppose I should reply here. ;)

I'm thrilled with the thought there may be more new and exciting John/Cam stuff happening and can't wait to play along!

I like the idea of author tags, I sometimes remember the author but not the title, or I'm looking for stuff in a series or something. Not terribly interested in Ben or Joe stuff mostly because I get that elsewhere, but I wouldn't mind if it was included.

I'm more than happy to help out with a header or something, but have no idea how layouts work in these parts.

Layouts seem to be one of the things they haven't quite worked out yet. So far people are mostly copying over layouts from LiveJournal, and then tweaking them to make them work. Unfortunately, I've never really looked into how layouts work on LiveJournal either. I think that's going to have to be one of my next projects.

For the first: I definitely like the idea of people being able to post notices of challenges and ficathons. Anything that bring more John/Cam stuff is good in my view. The actors, though, not so interested in them. There's already plenty of communities for that sort of things.

As for tags, all of the above? Type and rating are definitely good, and I could see author being useful.

I can't post, think it's because I'm not really a DW person? Layouts do seem like LJ's ~ once folks have decided which header, I'll put a layout up on my reading page so you can see it and copy the CSS code for you. It seems to be working ok with the exception of the image, but I also think that's because I'm not really a DW person.

Beautiful! Thank you! My favourite is the first one, although that picture of Cam in the second one is hilarious! Anyway, I'll put up a post and see what people think.

The lack of comment editing is annoying, eh? I might have to spring for a paid account here just for that.

(And if I had an extra invite code, I'd give it to you just for this. Maybe you'll win the invite lottery soon? Or I think all the registered OpenIDs will get codes on April 30th.)
